From the Alps to the Adriatic - and a Balkan Detour

Touchdown in Ljubljana and straight into adventure. We picked up our rental car and headed north for lunch at Lake Bled - turquoise water, mountains reflecting on the surface, and the perfect welcome to Slovenia. From there, a short hike brought us to Savica Waterfall, tumbling through autumn forest, and a cable car ride up to Vogel ski resort at 1,500 metres rewarded us with sunshine, crisp air, and endless alpine views. Great company, golden leaves, an abundance of water - we were already in love with Slovenia.  A walk around Lake Bled was mandatory: rowing to the island, tasting the famous Kremsnita cream cake, and climbing up to Bled Castle for postcard views. Next stop: the vast Postojna Cave - the largest cave system in Europe open to tourists, complete with surreal stalactite formations and its strangest resident, the pale cave olm.
